Drug Prevention
While drugs become a bigger problem for cities throughout the world, Ryan plans to focus on preventing drugs in youth. Future problems can be prevented if drug problems are squashed at the root, which means early prevention and education. Drugs hurt families and damage futures, while economically sends large amounts of money out of the city. Drugs can not be fought with a 'war', drug problems must be stopped before they start. Getting peers to help others resist the pressures of drugs is a good start. Beyond that, local officials can work with schools and even the youth population itself to combat drugs on a whole new level.
Read: Are drugs really a problem?
Prevention is the most powerful tool in the fight against drugs. Although a well-funded "War on Drugs" can temporarily catch drug dealers and substance abusers, nothing can be solved with a never-ending war. Our biggest plan for drug prevention is to encourage youth involvement in positive activities, while simultaneously working with schools and parents to teach children the dangers of drug use.
